Prior to turning to ice, Joey Mantia competed in the inline skating circuit where he dominated the field with Pan American Game and world champion titles, three consecutive American Speed Skater of the Year honors and the prestigious Elmer Ringeisen Sportsmanship Award in 2007—the sport’s highest award for sportsmanship. But he always wanted and strived for more and moved to Salt Lake City to train with the US Speedskating long track team. He made his official debut on the national team in 2013 and has since taken the speed skating world by storm. Nearly two dozen World Cup podium appearances, three World Championship titles later, and an Olympic bronze medal he’s now focused on what his tenth season has in store for him.
