Oh Yeon Ji began boxing as a teen after being encouraged to try the sport by her uncle, who was a former Olympic boxer, and has since secured her name in boxing history. In 2015 she became the first female boxer from the Republic of Korea to win a gold medal at the Asian Championships and defended the title in 2017. In 2018 she made history again when she became the first Korean female to win gold at the Asian Games. She was one of the first Korean female boxers to ever compete at the Olympics where she competed in the Tokyo Games. Her philosophy for her success is that “your sweat will never betray you.”
