Welson Sim first started swimming as a hobby when he was 10 to help with his asthma. Two years later he knew he wanted to swim professionally. Fast forward seven years and he became the first-ever Malaysian male swimmer to qualify for the Olympics and has since represented Malaysia at two consecutive Games—Rio and Tokyo. He is also a three-time Southeast Asian Games champion and was awarded the 2017 Men’s Malaysian Olympian of the Year and 2017 Best Sportsman of the Southeast Asian Games.
